Fequently asked questions:
Will I be able to attend if I have dietary requirements?
We try to accommodate dietary requirements as best we can and do our best to provide alternatives where possible. However, some classes are simply not designed to accommodate special dietary requirements, for example, we can not make entire baking classes gluten free or make croissants without butter.
If you have any questions about what we can provide, please call or email us before making your booking on 01245 476994 Please put a note in the “dietary requirements” box at the checkout if you have any requirements or allergies at all, even if you do not think it it is relevant!
What time do the classes start/end?
The start time will be confirmed on your booking receipt, but classes generally start at 10am and finish at 4pm. We ask that you arrive at least 10mins before the start time so that the course can start promptly. We will be serving tea and coffee in the winery from 9.15am so why not get here and relax a little before starting your class.
What do I need to bring /wear?
You do not need to bring anything with you to the classes. However if you wish to take some of the things home that you have cooked then please bring a cool bag/box and some take away food containers. If you are attending a patisserie course we would also suggest bringing a large cake tin.

Food that is taken away from the cookery school is your responsibility to ensure that it is in a suitable condition for safe consumption.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day.
Will I be the only person on the course who doesn't know anyone?
Not at all! The majority of our students come alone. We pride ourselves on having friendly staff and our kitchen is very un-intimidating and relaxed so you don’t need to feel scared of attending alone.
Will I have my own cookery station?
Cooking with your classmates is an integral part of your day at Galleywood cookery school. You will cook some of your recipes in pairs, and some independently. Whatever the ratio, there is always more than enough food to go around, and often food to take home too.
You will have your own preparation area but will share a hob and oven with one other classmate
Your cookery class will comprise of a mixture of practical cookery and demonstrations performed by the teacher who is running the session. The exact format will vary from class to class depending on the style of cuisine and the chefs individual teaching style.
Can I take home the food that I cook
Yes you are welcome to take home most of the items that you cook in class provided you bring a chiller bag/box with you and we will provide you with a freezer block. This is to ensure that you transport food in a suitable environment from the time the food leaves the Cookery School as it can deteriorate quickly and potentially cause illness if not kept chilled suitably.
Food that is taken away from the cookery school is your responsibility to ensure that it is in a suitable condition for safe consumption.
Can I take photos/ use mobile phone in the class?
We encourage the use of photography in the workshops, as it can be a useful learning tool when you get home, but we ask that you take into account the preference and privacy of the other students.( No filming allowed) Please do not disturb other guests with excessive phone use. We will often take photographs on the day at our courses which may be posted online, please let us know if you would rather not be included. What if I need to cancel or change my booking?
Our cook school classes are live events with a small number of students; staff are booked and ingredients are purchased in advance. Due to these factors—and to prevent significant increases in our prices—we operate with a strict cancellation policy, and are not able to offer flexibility for late cancellations.
If a cancellation is requested 14 days before a scheduled class, we will issue a full refund. or we can transfer the booking to a different date. (Please note we can only do this once.) If a booking is cancelled within 14 days of a class, we are unable to offer a refund or transfer for any reason, including illness. Unlike a restaurant, we are not able to rely on 'walk-ins' to take up unused bookings after this cut-off period.
We understand this can be frustrating. If possible, we recommend passing the ticket(s) on to somebody else who can attend in the class holder's place.
